ITs real name (if indeed, it has one) is unknown. At the same time, many people are afraid of clowns, making them an easy fear to exploit. However, ITs favorite and most common form is that of a circus performer named "Pennywise the Dancing Clown," as most small children love a clown and generally, it seems that the people in Derry happily accepted the presence of a stray circus performer. This ability is useful for, A) appearing as the target's loved ones or friends to manipulate them or lure them into a trap or B) appearing as the target's worst psychological fear. IT can morph into any other human animal, nonhuman animal or object (including combinations thereof). The form of a female spider seems to be ITs true physical form on Earth (or at least that is the closest thing the human mind can comprehend), living deep below the fictional town of Derry, Maine. Since ITs true identity is unclear, due to its shape-shifting abilities and being from another universe, ITs real name and species are also called Deadlights, but few know this, which is why it is referred to as IT. Although It lived on planet Earth for many years, IT originated in a void/dimension outside the regions of space known as the Macroverse. The acting isn’t bad, and the sense of primitive isolation is palpable. Something might be disappointing when we see how obvious that something is. Something is growling unearthly noises in the dark, leaving claw marks high on trees. But mainly this is a simple creature feature variation, without the frights to back that up. There are nits to pick here, about how the kid is really getting by. The narrative of Daniel Robinette’s debut feature is seeded with clues about what’s happened, what’s happening and what’s to come. “Tethered” is about what the near-adult Solomon starts hearings in those woods, and what he and a hunter ( Kareem Ferguson) who stumbles into him try to do about it. Solomon - played by Brody Bett as a tween, Jared Laufree as a teen - traps animals for food, plants root crops in a garden and keeps a goat. That’s about as minimal as minimalist thrillers get, which can be a virtue but in this case produces a movie sorely lacking in surprises, action or suspense. In the thriller “Tethered,” a little blind boy is raised by his parents to live self-sufficient and alone in the woods, keeping himself tied, by rope, to the home he makes his way back to each day after checking his trapline.
